This book covered the Autumn Festival and it was interesting to see Goblin Slayer in social events rather than in depths of a cave or the tunnels of a sewer. This was another great read, but the pace was a little slower than the previous light novels, not to say it was bad simply different. I am hoping the fourth volume does something interesting, or if it will keep going further and further away from the first volume that hooked many because it was something different than your normal fantasy story. A few interesting details but nothing more. In the end, this was just an average story. (without using a trick or two) Instead, I felt he got beaten pretty easily, and that the action at the end with this new bad and the goblins was tossed in so readers wouldn't get angry that this book contained no fighting. That said, we are introduced to a new kind of monster, one that should be scary and more powerful than anything they have fought before and won.

We also get a good look at what happens to those who break guild rules, so that was also a treat, and it even comes around to make things full circle which wrapped up certain events beautifully. So I am always happy to see how a writer takes this concept and runs with it. Personally I always find these things fascinating as I grew up with Western fantasy where quests came from hearsay and usually some defining moment, not from a guild that takes everyone's requests. The look into the guild was nice, and gave a good little bit of world building when it came to that. Sure, we get to see more about what the Goblin Slayer does in his spare time, and what he does with two women who are interested in him, but it's more or less the same stuff we have come to expect from this series.
